Nelly Furtado's debut album Whoa Nelly! was released in 2000 and spawned the hit single "I'm Like A Bird." Early life

Cuthbert was born in Calgary, Alberta, the daughter of Patricia, a homemaker, and Kevin, an automotive design engineer. She has two younger siblings, Jonathan and Lee-Ann, and she grew up in Greenfield Park, near Montreal, Quebec. In 2000, she graduated from Centennial Regional High School and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 to pursue an acting career.

Erica Durance

Erica Durance (pronounced /dəˈræns/ born June 21, 1978) is a Canadian actress. She has also been credited as Erica Parker. She is best known for her role as Lois Lane on the Superman-inspired television series Smallville.

Early life

Durance was born in Calgary, Alberta and was raised in Three Hills, Alberta. After graduating from high school, Durance moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, to pursue her interest in acting professionally. "I wanted to get my feet wet in a smaller area than Los Angeles when I gave it a try", Durance has said. She continued to study acting at The Yaletown Actors Lab for many years with her husband, David Palffy. She started out with background work, graduating to commercials, and then guest-starring roles, landing more substantial roles each time.

Career

In 2004, she guest-starred on The Chris Isaak Show playing Ashley, a woman on a date with Chris. In Tru Calling, her character was a contender in a beauty pageant opposite Eliza Dushku's character. On the Sci-Fi Channel, she played an intergalactic librarian in Andromeda and a love interest for Teal'c in Stargate SG-1. She also played a sister to one of the leads in the Canadian show The Collector. Durance was cast as Lois Lane on Smallville prior to the beginning of the 4th season. Executive Producer Kelly Souders recalled hiring Durance stating: “There were a lot of wonderful actresses who came in for the role but I remember sitting and watching her tape and everybody was like, ‘That’s her. There’s no question.” Fellow producer Brian Peterson added that from the moment Durance was hired they knew she would be Lois for the series. Durance was a frequent guest star for the 4th season of Smallville and was then promoted as a series regular for the 5th season. She is still part of the regular cast and will appear in all 22 episodes of the (current) 10th and final season.

Kirsten Prout was born in Vancouver, Canada, and began her career at ten-years-old. She grew up in a household completely removed from the film industry, being the daughter of a neurologist and a child therapist. She credits her early insight into behaviour as a product of her mother's background in therapy. This sensitivity led to a talent for developing characters and story, which manifested itself as a love of film, television and literature. She also enjoyed dance and martial arts, training most extensively in the latter. Met with success at an early age, Kirsten worked locally in Vancouver, guest-starring on shows such as "First Wave" (1998), "Stargate SG-1" (1997), "Cold Squad" (1998) and "The Dead Zone" (2002). Her first sizeable break in film came in 2005 when she landed the part of "Abby Miller", a young martial arts prodigy, alongside Jennifer Garner, in Elektra (2005). Kirsten performed her own stunts and utilized her past training in taekwondo, crediting the experience as one of the most challenging and rewarding of her career. Transitioning from her rebellious character, Kirsten worked on the ABC Family television series "Kyle XY" (2006) as the demure "Amanda Bloom". After the show finished its successful three seasons, Kirsten, always academically inclined, chose to attend McGill University as an English Literature major, furthering her understanding of character, story, and the written word. Early life

Born in Toronto and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Carter attended Balmoral Hall School where she was a dedicated dancer and took part in various school plays, including The Wizard of Oz, in which she played Dorothy. She attended Ryerson Theatre School in Toronto.

Career

Carter appeared in the television series Wolf Lake (2001), Dark Angel (2000) and Undeclared (2001)
Carter was cast in a minor screen roles in Mindstorm (2001) (starring Eric Roberts, Michael Ironside, and Antonio Sabato Jr.), and Final Destination 2 (2003). In the HBO series, Entourage, her character drives the gang to the Sundance film festival while two of the characters vie for her attention.
Carter first appeared as a major character in a television role as Allie Bennett in Black Sash, and learned martial arts in preparation for the role. As Alicia Baker, she appeared in three episodes of Smallville.
