Lilly Pulitzer Spring 2011

Thanks to my BFF Muffy Martini for sharing with me the .pdf version of the latest Lilly Pulitzer catalog (Spring 2011)!

As I sit inside at work on a cold, but cheery-sunny day, the bright pops of color on the models made me feel excited about Spring (and a lil' out of shape, too). Here are a few of my favorite styles, I hope you all do not mind YET ANOTHER blogger writing about her favorite styles of Lilly P.


The "Eryn" is a gorgeous, fluffy dress of the retro variety - clearly something you would see on Mad Men on any given episode. I am a fan of the textured look - this dress has an organza ribbon stripe and a full skirt.



The "Jacqueline" dress has a cheerful green color and a classic shift shape. I am in love with the novelty lace in the Lilly Pulitzer signature lace mini jacquard. Again, I love texture! Isn't it just a fun Spring-y color? I am sure I will see this at Easter and at horse races this Spring.



Lastly, I love the "Shauna" tunic dress. Every season I try to get a new white dress. For one, it is the epitome of summer. Two, I find that it inspires me to really tone up and get some healthy coloring. And it looks flattering with the natural auburn highlights in my hair that happen in the summer months. All good things!

As you can see, I am a fan of boatnecks. I have pretty toned arms so I love that look! Flattering and clean-cut while not looking prude-ish!

Did anyone else watch Season Four premiere of Mad Men on Sunday night? If so, then you will recognize this clip!:



Mike and I got home from the beach in time to watch it! Yay!

Loved the fashion - they are heading into the more colorful period of the 1960s.



I am so happy Joan has her own office, don't know why it took them so long to upgrade her lifestyle like that. I am assuming this means she is still married to that failure of a doctor?

I wonder if Peggy, with her mod look, is still seeing Duck? Or is she going to finally hook up with Don in some awkward drunken hot mess that I've been predicting for ages (esp since that hot lady shot him down in the back seat of a cab, ZING!)



Of course, as usual, I'd wear whatever Betty wears, even if she is a hot mess right now. She seems like a horrible mother to me, and I love how Sally retaliated in such a hysterical, immature way. I will retrain myself from the psychoanalysis of THAT situation.

Halloween Costumes

Well, I have decided my Halloween Costume... well, the theme at least!

My school is having a Monster Bash Halloween party with a big-time DJ named DJ Duane (done Fancy Dress at W&L, no less) and so I am helping to host the event with my Campus Events Committee so I need a good costume.

What am I going as?

Betty Draper.

Why? Because my arm candy, I mean, PBF, Mike, will need something doable. So I wanted something he looks GOOD in, and he looks super hot in a suit, so he will play my Don Draper for the evening.

Yay!

Mad love for Mad Men

Does anyone else find the show Mad Men simply intoxicating?

I don't mean because everyone on the show is a true WASP and boozer, I just mean because the show sucks you into the time period. The show I can closely link it to is The West Wing, because of their similarities in style. It is a WORLD you have often thought about and wondered over. You see the look and the colors and the people, but you can't really play out the conversations you see on-screen in your head until it's actually done.

For me, I have two different worlds of the 1960s to think about and compare with. My Dad's family was living a very blessed and luxurious life, thanks to my great-great grandfather J.A.J. I, and were busy growing with the construction boom from the post-war era. My Mother's family was a large family (5 kids; 4 girls (my mother the oldest) and one boy) in a relatively quiet and beautiful rural area outside of Covington, VA - a railroad town slowing down with the trend of airplane travel - but not quite extinct yet.

My Dad's family was definitely the Mad Men kind of family. Picture-perfect. Mom. Dad. Son. Daughter. Disciplinary debates on treating the children properly. Vacations in lovely places. Golf Club membership. The Way To Live Right. Booze. Cigarettes and Cigars. Perfect house on a perfect street. To make it even more picturesque, imagine Coral Gables (Miami), Florida, during this time period. Very Cuban-inspired but not salsa-style like it is now. Not as saucy, but enticing, kind of like the Season 2 eps in Los Angeles and Palm Springs....

Did anyone watch the season premiere?

I loved it. Some parts of it I thought were twisted and unnecessary (the whole cutting off d^%$ bit), but it still rolled into a great storyline about a man having to give up his own vices to step it up for being a family man again... and the other stuff, too, but lets not kid ourselves, the Drapers are the main members of the cast, like it or not.
