How to Lighten Eyebrows
By an eHow Contributor
So you've finally found the perfect hair color, but now your eyebrows don't match well, or maybe your eyebrows are naturally just a little too dark for your tastes.
Disharmonious Eyebrow
Whatever the case, it's actually relatively easy to lighten your eyebrows at home, and there are several options available to make sure you get it just right.
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions.1
Apply a salon-quality facial bleaching cream to your eyebrows for about a minute. Unless you're looking to lighten your eyebrows dramatically all the way to blonde, you'll want to keep a close eye on the color when using this cream. Just one minute will turn raven black eyebrows to chestnut brown.
2
Try a tinted eyebrow powder to temporarily lighten your eyebrows. If you're looking for a subtle lightening effect, be sure to choose a matte powder, but if you're looking for a glam look, go with a shimmery powder or even glitter and sparkles.
3
Use a colored eyebrow gel for a temporary lightening effect with a styling hold. This is an especially good solution if you're looking for a sculpted look on top of the lightening for just an evening. Since most gels have a translucent quality, only a gel with a really strong tint will work for very dark eyebrows.
4
Call your favorite salon to have your eyebrows professionally lightened. Just like hair dying products, lightening kits for home use are very different from the formulas available to salons. Not only are the formulas different, but salon professionals are specifically trained to make sure that your eyebrows will come out just the way you want them. They can also provide waxing and shaping services as well.
5
Find the appropriate shade for your hair color. Contrary to popular belief, your eyebrows should not perfectly match your hair. Redheads should have auburn or reddish brown eyebrows to avoid having your face look washed out. Cool shades of hair should have cool eyebrows, but about one to two shades warmer than your hair. Blondes should go with a chestnut brown to prevent your eyebrows from disappearing completely. Black hair should go no darker than a charcoal gray.
6
Pencil in a lighter color for your eyebrows. You'll want to use a color a little lighter than you would expect since penciling usually colors the skin under your eyebrows instead of the brows themselves. The effect is that the dark color of your current eyebrows will visually blend with the extra-light color of the pencil, creating the combined impression of a lighter eyebrow.
